Guest Artist Cindy Rinne 8/16-22

The Redlands Art Association is pleased to announce Cindy Rinne as their Guest Artist August 16 through the 22nd. The Show-in-a-Show, using the interior of the East Gallery, will feature Rinne’s fabric art – stories and poems sewn into fabric pictures, as well as her newest book of poems. The public is invited to meet the artist at the reception on Sunday, Aug 16 from 2 to 5 pm with a reading of some of her latest work at 3 pm.

Cindy Rinne creates art and writes in San Bernardino, CA. She is the author of spider with wings (Jamii Publishing), Quiet Lantern, is forthcoming (Turning Point), and she co-authored Speaking Through Sediment with Michael Cooper (ELJ Publications). Her poem, “Mapping” was nominated for the Liakoura Award by Pirene’s Fountain. Cindy is a founding member of PoetrIE, an Inland Empire based literary community. Her fiber art has appeared in Ghost Town Literary Magazine. Her poetry appeared or is forthcoming in Snapdragon: A Journal of Art & Healing, Naugatuck River Review, Zoomoozophone, Indiana Voice Journal, and others.

Cindy Rinne has created fine art for over 35 years. She began in water media and started creating art quilts over 15 years ago. She paints and draws with thread using fabrics from around the world. Cindy writes original poetry which often appears as a part or with the art work. Her work emphasizes using fiber and stitch constructed into collage. She uses repurposed vintage fabrics, laces, and buttons as textures.

Cindy was a guest speaker about her art and poetry at the Museum of History and Art in Ontario, CA 2014.Cindy was invited to be in a group show at Intercambios, CEARTE Arts Center, Ensenada, Mexico in 2013. She was part of “The Apron Project” by Womyn’s Work in Albuquerque, NM and “Connecting Threads,” Terminal One, LAX International Airport in 2013. Cindy had art work in the TAQS exhibit in Taiwan and the WCA national exhibition, “Like Water on Rock” (a traveling show) in Los Angeles and San Diego, CA in 2009. Both of these shows included catalogs.

She curated a fiber show, “rebirth of dialects” for the Chaffey Community Museum of Art, 2015 in Ontario, California. She’s had a solo shows in 2012-current in southern California called, “A Constellation of Galaxies,” “How Moose Came to Live in the Forest,” “Speaking Through Sediment,” “Mapless,” Quiet Lantern,” and “Cosmic Songs: the Stars Sing.” Cindy is represented by “Altered Space Gallery.” www.fiberverse.com
