Kathryn Osborne Young

Upon graduation from Dana College in Iowa with my BA in art education, I taught art in a K-12 school district in Omaha, Nebraska.  After that, my love of travel (I have been to over 27 countries) led me to be hired by the Department of Defense where I taught in Spain, Iceland and the Azores Islands of Portugal. I got married and returned to the United States where I operated my own successful business for two decades.

During the 1990’s I returned to teaching and taught art in a K-12 school district.  I became a primary grade teacher and earned my master’s degree in Curriculum.  As a highly skilled reading teacher, I was elected District Teacher of the Year, and was a finalist for the Riverside Teacher of the Year.

Upon retirement I took art classes from David Musser; Natalie Richards, Teresa Saia, Alain Picard, and plan to take a class from Barbara Jaenicke. As I practiced, I gained more confidence and then fell in love with pastels. Pastels give me freedom to make exciting marks – from sweeping bold strokes to small specks of pigment that kiss the paper.  The vibrant hues express my joy of color.  Mark making and overlapping of color convey emotion through my paintings and create exciting textures and new colors.  I like to intensify and exaggerate the colors capturing everything from the beauty of nature’s grandeur to the simplicity of my everyday surroundings.

My favorite paintings are spontaneous and communicate the energy I see in my sources.  My favorite subjects are landscapes that I create from photographs taken during my travels.  I try to interpret emotions through my paintings, capturing the essence of the places I have visited.

Jeanne Dolan

Jeanne has always been interested in arts and crafts from sewing teddy bears to painting watercolor landscape. She still has the stuffed dog (Willie) she sewed in Junior High Home Economics class.

She continuous to express her artistic abilities through her fused glass. She started taking fused glass classes 9 years ago and since retiring continues to learn various techniques through a workshop at Tri-Community Education in West Covina.  Jeanne says she enjoys creating contemporary pieces but especially loves working on whimsical curious critters inspired by her love of animals as seen in her glass works.
Jeanne was looking for a creative artistic outlet to pursue during retirement and stumbled upon fused glass classes being taught out of a garage studio and was instantly hooked.  She now spends her retirement being a pet mom, traveling, volunteering at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter, and creating fused glass art.  She has sold her fused glass art over the last 4 years at various craft fairs and the Redland Art Gallery.
