Special Alert for January Shows and Events

This coming January we will be holding a special one-person exhibition in the west gallery for a former member and city engineer, Ray Swanson.  There will be a special reception on Sunday, January 4th from 2 to 4:30 and Swanson’s widow, Beverly, will be attending.  Please mark your calendars, an RSVP will be requested.

At the same time we will be having a modified members show in the east gallery.  Due to space limitation that show will be restricted to a single entry and it should be representative of your best work.  There are no size restrictions but please try to submit a reasonably sized piece so more works can be hung.

During the month there will be two special talks related to the Swanson exhibition and both will be given as ESRI/UR Town & Gown Forums at ESRI.  Hopefully we will have a large number of people visiting the gallery.  I will provide more details in next month’s newsletter.

Sheila Hansberger’s New Cookbook

Sheila Hansberger proudly announces her latest project, The Better Than Average Apple Cookbook, is now available on amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. It can also be found locally in Oak Glen at several shops and at the Kopper Kettle in Yucaipa.

Between the early 1970s, and up until 1988, her family owned and operated Snow-Line Orchards in Oak Glen. Says Hansberger, “Since an abundant crop grew right outside our door, I was always on the hunt for new ways to cook, bake, or preserve the fruit. Friends and family joined me in my quest and offered up a multitude of recipes which I compiled into a cookbook.”

The current cookbook is an updated version of an original printing that found its way into kitchens in 1975. That first edition, which immediately sold out, was created by using a mimeograph machine, stapled pages, and a cover printed by Cobb’s printing, where Hansberger worked as a graphic artist at the time.

This year, she revamped that first rudimentary cookbook into a commercially printed edition with a full-color glossy cover. Not only does it contain many favorite apple recipes from long ago, it now includes over thirty apple-themed illustrations spanning Hansberger’s career as an artist, making it a unique collector’s item.
